Sponsored/Affiliated Accounts

There are also other individuals who are not students or employees of the University or its auxiliaries, who require access to University resources, either in direct support of the instructional mission, or in support of administrative and institutional needs of the University. These individuals need to interact on a regular basis with students, faculty, and/or staff in carrying out their duties and assignments. Examples of such individuals include consultants/contractors working on extended projects and volunteers providing direct assistance to a University organization or auxiliary.

Individuals in both these categories may require access to UNIX resources or Cal Poly’s electronic calendaring system to effectively carry out their duties. As such, sponsored accounts will be provided UNIX, messaging, and calendaring accounts. Sponsored accounts must be manually set-up and verified by ITS staff. Cal Poly must fully recover any costs involved in supporting accounts for these individuals from their sponsoring organization (See Short-Term Cost Model).

Sponsored accounts are intended to be short-term accounts and are normally expected to be in existence for one year or less. In extenuating circumstances a department head may extend a sponsored account for one additional year, however any extensions beyond the second year must be approved by the Chief Information Officer and will be charged at the full first year rate to account for the loss of resources intended for short-term use.

To sponsor an account, please submit the Affiliated Person Request form.
