Telephone Repair Service


If you are experiencing difficulty with your line, equipment or features, please complete our on-line report service trouble form located here or call 6-7000, from off-campus call (805) 756-7000.

In many instances, the trouble can be quickly resolved. However, if we are unable to resolve the problem remotely, we will dispatch a technician to your location within one (1) working day. Most problems are corrected it within two (2) working days from the receipt of your call.

We have found that as many as 50% of all repair calls are resolved by simple tests and adjustments you can perform yourself by using the Telephone Troubleshooting Checklist below. We recommend that you investigate the following possible solutions before calling Telecommunication Services, 6-2671.



Telephone Troubleshooting Checklist


Problems


Message waiting lamp flashing but no message
1. Dial your extension and let it rollover into voice mail
2. Leave yourself a 10-15 second long message
3. Hang up
4. Press your message-waiting button and after the call is answered, enter your password
5. Listen to the message then delete by pressing 3
6. Message waiting light should go off
7. Hang up

No Ring
  • Is bell/ringer volume up?
    • Check ring volume, Press the (+) button while the phone is ringing until the desired level is reached.
  • Is set plugged in?
    • Check connections between phone and wall jack.
  • Is phone programmed to ring?
  • Is line on call divert or follow me?
    • Check phone display and remove ‘diversion’ or ‘follow me.’
  • Are all analog extension sets hung up?
    • Check all analog connections
No Dial Tone
  • Is the set/handset plugged in?
    • Check connections between phone and wall jack.
  • Are all analog extension sets hung up?
    • Check all analog connections.
Display is not Working
  • Is the set/handset plugged in?
    • Check connections between phone and wall jack.

Error Message Appearing on Digital Display


Blocked: The phone at the dialed number is unplugged. Try an alternate contact method.

Congestion:
Circuits to the dialed number are busy. Wait a few minutes, then redial.

Inter-digit time out: Too long of a delay between dialed digits (Hang up and redial number).

Line locked: Phone for dialed number is off-hook. Try an alternate contact method.

Locked: User initiated “Do Not Disturb” feature. Try an alternate contact method.



If your problem persists contact Telecommunication Services and provide the following information:


  • The extension number and location (bldg/room) of all lines affected.
  • The name and phone number of the primary contact person and a secondary contact, if necessary.
  • Brief description of problem and when it occurred.
  • What is shown on the display?
