Two-step verification sometimes referred to as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), strengthens authentication security by requiring two factors to verify your identity. They are:
- Something you know, like your username and password
- Something you have, like a phone (mobile or office phone) or tablet
Duo is the name of the product Cal Poly has chosen to use for 2-step verification.
Note for LastPass users: You must enroll your primary device with Duo before setting up LastPass.
Two-step verification implementation will take place in phases. In the first phase, 2-step verification will roll out to Cal Poly IT staff. The second phase will occur in parallel with the deployment of a new Virtual Private Network (VPN). All VPN users will authenticate using 2-step verification. The third phase will include staff who access CMS Finance (CFS). As ITS secures more applications with 2-step verification, it will launch to the rest of the staff on campus.
