Accounts and Passwords

I forgot my username, how do I retrieve it?
Contact the ITS Service Desk Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. by phone at 805-756-7000 or in person at building 46 - the Natatorium, next to Spanos Stadium. 
 

How do I reset my password?
Visit myportal.calpoly.edu/s/password to reset your password or contact the ITS Service Desk Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. by phone at 805-756-7000 or in person at building 46 - the Natatorium, next to Spanos Stadium. For security reasons, passwords can't be reset via email.
 

When do I get access to my Cal Poly email and Office 365?
Students new to the university in the fall quarter get access to email and Office 365 in mid to late July.


My Cal Poly Portal

What is the My Cal Poly portal? 
The My Cal Poly portal is the web portal is where you can access everything you need on campus in a format you can customize. It includes:

  • Single click access to many widely used campus applications like Email and Calendar, OneDrive, etc.
  • Access to PolyLearn, our learning management system
  • Campus announcements and events
  • College, department, and club information

How do I start using the My Cal Poly portal? 

  • Go to my.calpoly.edu.
  • Enter your Cal Poly username in the Username field.
  • Enter your Cal Poly password in the Password field.
  • Click on the Sign In button.
     

How do I customize my portal view?
The My Apps menu, located on the left side of the My Cal Poly portal, links to applications you will likely use at Cal Poly. If you are not seeing a link, use Edit Favorites to add or remove links to the My Apps menu.

Tabs are located at the top of the page and portlets are the boxes located within each tab. You can drag and drop portlets to customize them within a tab. You can add a new tab by clicking the Add Tab button. Then you can add portlets by clicking on the Customize button. 
 
Notifications are located in the upper-right corner of the page and communicate pertinent information that require action.

Wi-Fi 

How do I connect to Wi-Fi on campus? 
Secure Mustang Wireless is used by students, faculty, and staff on campus. Instructions can be found at wireless.calpoly.edu. Use your Cal Poly username and password to log in.
 

How do I connect to Wi-Fi in University Housing?
ResNet provides wireless to every student living in Cal Poly-owned housing. Instructions can be found at wifi.calpoly.edu.
 

If I have a guest on campus, is there a way for them to connect to Wi-Fi? 
To access Cal Poly’s Guest Wi-Fi network, guests have to go through a quick registration process. Instructions can be found at servicedesk.calpoly.edu/guestwifi
 
As a security measure, never give out your Cal Poly username and password to guests to log on to the Wi-Fi network. 


Software

How do I download software?
Office 365 (Email & Calendar)

Symantec (anti-virus)
Cal Poly offers Symantec at no charge to Cal Poly users. Download it for use on your personal computer and feel free to share it with family and friends. Download Symantec through the My Cal Poly portal. Follow the instructions on the Service Desk Software page under How to Download Academic Use Software.

Discounted Software (via Kivuto)
Low-cost software is available for purchase at the Cal Poly OnTheHub website, which provides discounted and free software.
 
Before visiting the "OnTheHub" website, please follow the instructions on the Service Desk Software page under How to Download Academic Use Software to see if you have access to automatically download the software as part of your classes.

PolyCard Services

I never received my PolyCard, where do I pick it up?
To get your new PolyCard stop by PolyCard Services located in building 46 - the Natatorium, next to Spanos Stadium. Hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday.  

We require proof of identification, so please bring a government-issued ID prior with you. Valid ID examples include passport (USA or International), state issued driver’s license (USA only), state issued identification card (Non-driver) or a US military ID. 
 

I Iost my PolyCard, how do I get a new one?
Deactivate your card via the My Cal Poly portal. This will prevent fraudulent transactions from being applied to your account.

  • Log into the My Cal Poly portal.
  • Under My Apps, select PolyCard Services.
  • Select Report Lost Card in the sidebar of the CS Gold WebCard Center.
  • Click the Yes button to deactivate your PolyCard.

Next, stop by PolyCard Services to get your new PolyCard. We are located in building 46 - the Natatorium, next to Spanos Stadium. Hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. There is a $5 replacement fee that can be paid in cash or with Campus Express.

PolyLearn

What is PolyLearn? 
PolyLearn is Cal Poly’s branded version of the Moodle learning management system. A learning management system stores and manages course content and activities online.
 

How do I access PolyLearn? 
Visit polylearn.calpoly.edu and click on the Log in link at the top right of the page. Use your Cal Poly username and password to log in.
 

Where do I go for PolyLearn support?
Visit polylearnsupport.calpoly.edu and click on the Student button. There you will find an Orientation video, Quick Start Guide (PDF), tutorials and FAQs.


Media Resources

Do I have access to check out equipment on campus?
Yes, at the Media Resource Center in Building 2, Room 9.

Some of the available items for check out include digital audio recorders, document cameras, GoPros, laptops (Mac and PC), PA systems, projectors and video cameras.

New Student Technology Needs 

What technology might I need as a new student at Cal Poly?
