Creating a Wiki File Share with WebDAV

The Cal Poly Wiki can be utilized as a WebDAV file share drive. File lists can be created on Wiki pages and connected to a Wiki file server, allowing multiple users to access and edit files offline. This service is helpful for those who work frequently with file shares. 

The following instructions for Windows computers will contain screenshots from a PC with Windows 10. If you are on a Windows computers that does not have Win10, the screenshots may not reflect the exact design of your computer screen; however, the instructions are still appropriate for other Windows computers. 

Windows

The following instructions detail how to use Wiki file lists as a file share on a Windows 10 computer. 

  1. Select the computer's Start menu.
  2. In the Start menu search bar, enter "This PC" ("My Computer" for Windows 7).

     
  3. When the option appears, right click the application and select "Map Network Drive."

  4. A "What network folder would you like to map?" window will appear. Enter the folder path named: \\wiki.calpoly.edu@SSL\DavWWWRoot\plugins\servlet\confluence\default.

  5. Check the box labeled "Connect using different credentials" and select "Finish."

  6. A "Connect to wiki.calpoly.edu" window will appear. Enter Cal Poly credentials and select "OK."

  7. Next, open the computer's File Explorer.
  8. Select "This PC" (or "My Computer") > Wiki network location (labeled "default").

     
  9. Inside the Wiki file share location, there should be two folders: Personal (for personal Wiki files) and Global (for team Wiki files). Click to open the Global folder. 

  10. Select your department team folder (e.g. cla, its, sla, cafes, etc). 

  11. Open a new browser window and go to https://wiki.calpoly.edu.
  12. Once in the Wiki, locate your team department space (selected in Step 9). 

  13. Select the (...) symbol located next to the "Create" link at the top of the page. 

  14. This will open a window of page options; select "File List."

  15. A "File List" window will appear. Enter a name and optional description for the new file list.
  16. If you would like the list to be accessible to only a few specific users, enter their Cal Poly usernames into the "Restricted Users" field. Select "Create."

  17. Reopen the Wiki file share window first selected and refresh. The new file list location should appear. 

You can now move and add any files or documents to this file list and they will appear in both the file share location and on the new Wiki file list. 

Macintosh

The following instructions detail how to use Wiki file lists as a file share on a Macintosh computer.

  1. In the Finder bar at the top of the desktop screen, select Go > Connect to Server...

  2. Under "Server Address," enter https://wiki.calpoly.edu/plugins/servlet/confluence/default and "Connect."

  3. The "default" Wiki file share location will appear. In this location, there should be two folders: Personal (for personal Wiki files) and Global (for team Wiki files). 

  4. Click to open the Global folder and select your department team folder (e.g. cla, its, sla, cafes, etc). 

  5. Open a new browser window and go to https://wiki.calpoly.edu.
  6. Once in the Wiki, locate your department team space (selected in Step 3). 

  7. Select the (...) symbol located next to the "Create" link at the top of the page. 

  8. This will open a window of page options; select "File List."

  9. A "File List" window will appear. Enter a name and optional description for the new file list.
  10. If you would like the list to be accessible to only a few specific users, enter their Cal Poly usernames into the "Restricted Users" field. Select "Create."

  11. Reopen the Wiki file share window and refresh. The new file list location should appear. 

You can now drag and drop files into this file list or into other pages within the Wiki file share location.

If added to other non-file list pages, the files will appear as attachments on the Wiki page. If added to the file list location, it will show up under the file list page on the Wiki.
